Alyson Souza was born in Bridgeport Connecticut in 1968.  Growing up with a father who was an artist greatly influenced her as she focused in on making art herself at a very early age.  She received a scholarship to the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1990.  Alyson’s work appeared in group shows at the Houghton Gallery as well as the Ridge Street Gallery, both in New York.  In 1993 she began to work in wood, constructing intricate three-dimensional oil paintings.  She did so in New York until 1997.  She then moved to Los Angeles. In 2000 she had a solo exhibition entitled Mind Matters at the Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica.  Her work was included in shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Houston Texas as well as a show of contemporary retablos at the Cerritos College Art Gallery.  In 2003 Alyson received a grant from The Ucross Foundation and spent six weeks in residency in Wyoming.  Her next solo exhibition at The Robert Berman Gallery was entitled Anatomy of Dysfunction.  In 2005 an artist profile of Alyson and her work was featured on HGTV.  Souza’s work has since appeared in several group shows, most recently, The Santa Monica Museum of Art and La Luz de Jesus respectively.

She continues to live and work in Los Angeles.
